Artist: Howard Replogle

Howard studied art in college and built a house at age 25, but made his career in business for practical reasons. Now retired, he's free to follow his muse. Instrument building, or "lutherie," is a natural progression after home repairs, handiwork, cabinet making, and decorative box making. And it's a perfect pairing of his loves of music and fine craftsmanship.

Howard trained with guitar builders, so his ukuleles reflect those methods and styles. His instruments tend more toward the clean and elegant than the ornate, and showcase the natural beauty of the local and exotic woods he favors. Be sure to tour his studio; his specialized shop-made tools and jigs are amazing!

"It's a truely great thing thing to be able to produce functional art that itself produces art - beauty out of beauty - Pure reward." Don Bredes
